INTRODUCTION TO COLLABORATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING®

Parents and Guardians, I am inviting you to learn about an innovative approach to understanding and helping kids with behavioral challenges. One that is rooted in decades of neuroscience, is effective, and feels good to both you and your child.

Have you tried everything, but…?

Behavior charts, consequences, loss of privileges, time-outs, taking away toys, setting firm boundaries…if you feel like you have tried everything under the sun yet your child’s behaviors are not improving, I want you to know that you’re not crazy, and you’re not alone.

I tried all those with my daughter and they did not help her to meet my expectations, made her explosive behaviors worse, and our relationship dreadful. If you feel depleted and worry that spanking and punishments are the only option left, let me give you hope.

The Good News

It’s not your fault, and it’s not your child’s fault either that traditional parenting strategies have not been effective.

They are motivational tools, born out of the conventional wisdom that when kids don’t meet our expectations, it’s because they don’t want to.

But we now know from decades of research that it is not true; kids with chronic behavioral challenges don’t lack will to behave better, they lack skill. Usually many skills, which rewards and punishments cannot teach, and these strategies often lead to parent-child disconnection.
If you are ready to leave behind power struggles and learn how to partner with your child to solve problems long term, help them build skills and rediscover joyful connection, join me and learn about the Collaborative Problem Solving.

Learning Objectives:

In this introductory class you will learn the basic principles of the Collaborative Problem Solving approach, how it’s different from conventional discipline, and why it’s a good fit for kids who don’t respond well to traditional strategies.

By the end of this class you will:

  • Understand the real causes of challenging behaviors

  • Discover why motivational approaches work only sometimes

  • Learn about the three options for responding to challenging behaviors, and how to decide which one to choose

  • Find out how CPS can help you build a loving, respectful, and trusting relationship with your child.
